Deputy Ann Phelan today asked, "is NAMA wagging the State dog's tail in its cavalier attitude to residents' rights on issue in its unfinished housing estates?
"I was alarmed to discover that where NAMA is a stakeholder, it refuses to discuss its role with local authorities and residents, in reaching solutions to ensure satisfactory completion or resolution of the unfinished housing developments.
"I understand that NAMA's attitude seems to be that it is a bank, and it has no resources to deal with aspects of its business outside banking. However this is not helpful to the many people who have invested their life savings in their home.
"The interim Report on Unfinished Housing Estates has said that many unfinished developments are having a serious impact on the living conditions of residents, as well as affecting the wider community, society and the economy. The primary objective of addressing unfinished developments should be to address the needs of the residents.
"Residents are entitled to their rights by due process. I ask that action be taken to instruct NAMA to engage with its residents and planning authorities in resolving outstanding site issues with unfinished estates as recommended by the Government Advisory Group."
