Jim has been actively involved in politics since 1985. He joined the Labour Party in 2003 and successfully secured a seat on both Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council in the local elections of that year.

Jim is well known for his hard work as a constituent politician and would like to see more opportunities afforded to the less well off in our society.

Cllr Marcella McGarry

Marcella, a first-time Labour Party candidate in June 2009, took a seat at the expense of Fianna Fail and was elected on the fifth count to Sligo Borough Council.

The McGarry family have a long-standing Labour Party tradition and Marcella's recently deceased father, Teddy, was heavily involved in the party in the past and worked as a docker at Sligo Port. Marcella lives in the East ward with her daughter and works as a Project Worker in the area.

Many of us know Marcella for her work in the local community, such as the Fairgreen, the current Refurbishment and as a Community Representative on RAPID.
